Amaka Ubaka is happy to be back at home in the Sunshine State. She joined the Local 6 team in January 2013 and is excited to explore all that Central Florida has to offer.
Amaka comes to Local 6 after spending time at WOWT, in the nation's Heartland -- Omaha, Nebraska. Highlights of her time there include covering the NCAA College Baseball World Series and the 2012 Olympic Swim Trials. But she's happy to leave the cold weather behind to enjoy warm weather year around here in Central Florida.
Her passion for journalism began in high school, after an internship in public radio. After voicing her opinions on-air for weekly commentaries on important national and international issues, she became a certified news junkie. She loves covering stories that get results and make a difference for viewers.
She grew up in the state's capitol and continued studying journalism at the University of Miami (Go Canes!) After several internships, she graduated with a B.S. in communications.
When not at work, you will likely find Amaka at the gym, watching college football, or reading a good book.
In case you're wondering, her name is Nigerian and it's more common than you might think!
If you have a good story idea, send Amaka an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
