Cortney Hall reports weekdays for The Morning News. She joined the Local 6 team in May 2010.

Cortney grew up in Oak Brook, Ill., a small suburb about 30 minutes outside of Chicago.

She attended Georgetown University and graduated from the McDonough School of Business. Not ready to leave the District just yet, Cortney worked at the World Bank Group, a global organization that's a vital source of financial and technical aide for developing countries.

Cortney's broadcasting career began at Northwestern University's Medill Graduate School of Journalism. While there she specialized in business and political news, spending a quarter back in her second home, Washington D.C. While at Medill, she worked as the Washington correspondent for KMID, a station in Midland, Texas.

After graduating, Cortney started working for Bloomberg News. She helped write and produce its morning news programs including "First Word," "Morning Call," and "Starting Bell." She took ownership of the daily segment "Stocks to Watch," which helped investors track what news was moving the markets.

In 2007, Cortney decided to leave Bloomberg and try her hand at reporting. She worked as a dayside reporter for WCIA 3 News, a CBS affiliate and the top-rated station in the Champaign-Urbana market.

She's an avid reader and an enthusiastic basketball fan. She also enjoys cooking. If she's not in the newsroom, you can usually find Cortney on the tennis court, or whipping up something tasty in the kitchen.
