Fatal crash in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. -

A driver was killed in Orange County early Monday when a vehicle struck a light pole, officials said.

James West, 24, of Orlando, was killed in the crash, which happened on westbound University Boulevard near Orange Lake Drive, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to troopers, West was driving a 2002 four-door Chevrolet when he lost control for an unknown reason and struck several trees.  The car overturned and the roof hit a light pole, the FHP said.

Rescue crews removed West from the wreckage and he was taken to Florida Hospital East, where he later died, the FHP said.

West was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

University Boulevard was closed in the area but later reopened.
