ORLANDO, Fla. – Frank Brantley, 81, has been getting results for Central Florida mothers for 15 years.
Brantley hosts an annual Mother's Day gospel brunch the Saturday before Mother's Day.
"I feel joy in my heart to see people getting together and enjoying life," he said while taking a break from greeting guests at the James R. Smith Center in Orlando.
Every year the event grows. It started with a small gathering at his home, now more than 100 guests can be expected.
The retired construction worker said he was inspired by Devine intervention.
"I heard a voice," he said, describing a rainy day when he was working heavy equipment beside Interstate 4. "The voice said, 'I want you to do something. Said I want you to have a Mother's Day breakfast for all mothers.'"
Brantley plans the event all year, serving up southern breakfast items, fruit, coffee and orange juice.
He was nominated by his daughter, Emma Kingsland, who said her dad helps pay for the supplies by doing odd jobs. Donations also come from friends and family.
Kingsland said her dad just likes to help people and can often be found doing yard work or auto repair for the neighbors, but everyone knows him for his Mother's Day brunch.
"I see this as somewhat of a legacy," she said. "It means a lot to the people in the community and I think the world needs to know about it."
