CLERMONT, Fla. -

After more than two years of construction, a new center is now open in Central Florida helping people who are down on their luck get back on their feet.

The New Beginnings Learning and Development Center just opened its new facility in Clermont. The organization helps homeless and other people get back to work and take control of their life.

"We want to help people that need help," said Steve Smith, executive director of New Beginnings in Lake County.

The agency offers classes on life skills, computer training and job-search tips.

"There's so many people here that want to help in every different area and I used every single one of them," said Sherri Inglis, a former drug addict who turned her life around with the help of New Beginnings.

Some 400 volunteers completely gutted New Beginning's building on East Montrose Street. The building was once a honky tonk, but New Beginnings now uses it for office space, a large food pantry, a tutoring center and after-school daycare.

"Everything in this building has been donated to us, you can see the table, the chairs, the drywall, the paint, the carpet," said Smith.
