Police search for suspected shooter

A fatal shooting is investigated in Melbourne.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Melbourne police continue to investigate after one person was shot and killed at a Palm Bay Road apartment complex just before noon Thursday. 

Police arrived at the Park at Via Terrossa apartments near Dairy Road after witnesses reported a man being shot in the neck in the parking lot. The unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries, News 6 partner Florida Today reported.

At the scene, detectives conducted interviews with witnesses in the complex as crime scene technicians collected evidence

Lt. Cheryl Trainer with the Melbourne Police Department said that officers are searching for an early 2000s gold SUV with bumper stickers and aftermarket taillights. She also described the suspect as a black man but said that officers have no other information on who me might be. 

Still in the early stages of the investigation, Trainer said that no link between the suspect and victim has been determined and the motive is still unknown.
