VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -

Two teenagers were bitten by sharks on Friday afternoon within 30 minutes of each other.

The report of the bites came just before 3 p.m. on Friday near the jetty at 2800 North New Smyrna.

Officials said the two were competing in a surfing competition.

The first teen was bit on his foot while sitting on his board in the water around 1:30 p.m.

The other teen was diving under a wave when he was bit on his leg about 30 minutes later.

Both injuries are described as minor.

Beach Safety Ocean Rescue says it will be on the lookout for more sharks. Meteorologists are also warning of strong rip currents along the coast. Lifeguards are urging anyone who goes to the beach to always swim near a lifeguard tower.
