The Florida Highway Patrol said for an unknown reason, a 75-year-old Winter Park man was traveling in a 2008 Lexus westbound on S.R. 50 in the eastbound travel lane, just east of S.R. 520.

A 19-year-old Lake Mary man was traveling eastbound in a 2002 Honda eastbound, in the inside lane of eastbound S.R. 50, just west of S.R. 520.

As the 75-year-old man was traveling in the wrong direction, troopers said the front-left of his Lexus struck the front-left of the Honda.

The Florida Highway Patrol said two medical helicopters were called in as a result of the head-on collision.

Both drivers were airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center where they were pronounced dead, troopers said.

FHP said the crash remains under investigation.

Authorities said the westbound lanes of Colonial Drive reopened Friday night.
