APOPKA, Fla. -

A 6-year-old boy was honored as a hero by Orange County officials Tuesday afternoon. after he saved his family from a house fire.

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and Fire Chief Otto Drozd presented Tyler Taylor with the Mayor's Hero award.

Last month Tyler was staying with his great-grandmother in Apopka when in the middle night a fire started.

"It smelt like smoke and it woke me up,” says Tyler.

But he stayed calm waking up his family members.

“I told my granddaddy and he didn't wake up so I told my grandma then she looked outside the window and the truck was on fire.”

“Because of Tyler's quick actions nobody was injured in the fire,” says Chief Drozd.
Mayor Jacobs even nicknamed Tyler "Superman" and gave him a bagful of superman goodies.

The first grader not only walked away with his award because of his actions.....HE Also got a $500 check.

Laquadra Moore, Tyler's mother, says there's not a day that goes by when she doesn't count her blessings thanks to her son's actions.

“To be burying both of my sons and grandma and sisters that would have been devastating for me," she said.

Mario Maglione was also honored after he noticed a construction worker on fire, in his lift.

Maglione jumped out of his car, climbed the lift with a fire extinguisher, and put out the flames.

The worker was hauling down an A/C unit from a roof, when his lift hit a power line.

“Instinct just kicked in to save his life because like I said he was on fire and getting ready to fall out of the basket.”

Maglione took the award in stride he told Local 6 he doesn't think of himself as a hero at all. As for the man he saved he will survive but is still recovering.
