In the playoffs, anything can happen.
Friday night's game was no exception as the Apopka Blue Darters came out of the gates strong and never looked back.
Apopka entered this 8A regional semifinal with weary eyes as they welcomed regional opponent Timber Creek to Apopka High.
Last year's playoff meeting between the two saw an ambitious Timber Creek squad not only defeat, but shutout the Blue Darters 20-0.
One could not help but focus on the marquee match-up of this game pitting two of the regions best running back against one another.
Timber Creek's Jacques Patrick and Apopka's Jevric Blocker are two backs with almost opposite styles of running. However, both are game changers.
Patrick, a north to south runner, will bowl you over with his towering 6'2', 215 pound frame.
Blocker will shake-and-bake you out of your shoes with his exceptional low center of gravity and ability to make even the best high school defender miss.
As the lights dimmed and the teams entered the field, no one would have expected what happened next.
In a blink of an eye, it seemed the first quarter was over and Apopka was on top of the Wolves 28-0. In the blink of an eye, Timber Creek saw itself in almost too deep of a hole to climb out.
Timber Creek's head coach Jim Buckridge tried tripping up schemes on both sides of the ball during the second quarter, but his team was unable to find an answer for the running game of Apopka.
Whether it was Jevric Blocker or Zack Darlington, Timber Creek had no answer.
Jevric Blocker had 3 rushing TD's and a passing TD in the first half. Apopka was sitting pretty heading into halftime up 35-0.
The crowd was stunned. Even this reporter was stunned.
Apopka's defense used the all or none mentality it seemed in this game and would allowed Timber Creek's Patrick two or three yards, but never gave up a big play.
Apopka would go up 56-7 at the end of the third quarter and would go on to win 56-14.
Timber Creek finishes its season at 10-3 while Apopka continues their march deeper in the postseason.
