Bottlenose dolphin born at Discovery Cove
An Atlantic bottlenose dolphin was born at Discovery Cove last month, marking the first successful conceiving using "sperm sexing" research.
The 3 ½ foot-long, 35-pound female dolphin was born Nov. 30. The research involves separating sperm carrying a female-producing X chromosome from sperm carrying a male-producing Y chromosome, according to a SeaWorld release.
The female calf is continuing to develop, nurse and bond with its mother; both are doing well, SeaWorld officials said.
