Brush fire growing in Lake Mary

Seminole County firefighters are trying to contain a fire that is slowly creeping towards homes in Lake Mary.

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. -

Seminole County firefighters are working to contain a brush fire that could be seen from downtown Orlando.

Firefighters said they were alerted to the smoke off Markham Road and Markham Woods road Saturday afternoon.

A fire officials said the fire was about two to three acres and in a heavily wooded area when they got there.

Firefighters said people in a neighborhood nearby thought the flames may have been moving east towards them.

By 6 p.m., fire officials said they had the fire completely contained and it grew to about 30 acres.

Firefighters said the fire was on state property in the Wekiva River basin.
