Authorities are battling what they call a "fast-moving" brush fire in west Orange County.

APOPKA, Fla. -

Authorities are monitoring a brush fire that was burning in west Orange County on Monday afternoon

The fire ignited near Lake Opal Drive between State Road 414 and State Road 429 in Apopka, according to Orange County Fire Rescue. The fire was under control in the evening hours.

No evacuations were ordered, but firefighters are monitoring the fire very closely in case the flames reignite, officials said.

Local 6 news helicopter Sky 6 flew over the scene as the fire appeared to be burning around an old retention pond that had been emptied out, sending smoke into the air and burning heavy brush nearby.
