OCALA, Fla. -

Marion County deputies are searching for the culprits they say broke into a truck and stole a pallet of Christmas popcorn tins worth $500 at an Ocala truck stop.

Deputies said the driver was taking the trailer with the popcorn on it to Jacksonville, where the popcorn would be sold to Walmart, when he stopped at Marathon gas station and truck stop on Pine Avenue at 6 p.m. Saturday night.

When he returned at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, he realized the lock had been cut off of the trailer and several open tins of the Christmas popcorn were on the ground, according to the report. Deputies found one pallet of the popcorn was missing, meaning 80 tins were stolen, totaling around $500.

Deputies said the truck wasn't parked in the view of any of the store's cameras. The investigation is ongoing.
