CLERMONT, Fla. -

Department of Children and Families is investigating a Clermont family after the parents reportedly left their 8-year-old child home alone with two toddlers and an infant while they went shopping for stocking stuffers.

According to Clermont police, an anonymous tip led them to an apartment when an 8-year-old was left to care for children ages 2, 4 and 8 months old.  When police arrived, the child told them the cellphone her parents left her with was dead and she didn't know when her parents would return home.

The parents were called to return and they told police they were gone for 45 minutes and gave the 8-year-old strict instructions on how to care for the other children, according to the report. The parents don't have a DCF history and face child neglect charges if charges are filed.
