DeLAND, Fla. -

Volusia County deputies have arrested a 19-year-old high school student after they say she pushed a substitute teacher out of the way to help her brother fight another student.

Latanique Moore, 19, has been charged with assault on a public school employee, disrupting with school administration and battery in the Tuesday incident at DeLand High School.

Deputies said Moore was escorting her 14-year-old brother to class as she normally does and overheard a student talking about wanting to fight her brother. Moore said she stood at the doorway to tell the teacher while her brother was late to class when she saw her brother and the student fighting.

According to the report, Moore then pushed the teacher away, causing the teacher to fall back onto the classroom door, and started to help her brother beat up the other student. Both her brother and the other student received medical attention from the school nurse.

The teacher, who was substituting the class, left the classroom to get help and Moore was taken to Volusia County jail. She was not injured in the fight.
