BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -

Several cows escaped from a ranch and roamed onto the Beachline in Brevard County, forcing officials to close the highway while motorists deliberately drove the wrong way to avoid delays.

The incident happened Tuesday during rush hour on State Road 528 between Interstate 95 and State Road 407.

A rancher told Local 6 that several cows were able to access the highway because of a hole in his fence.  He says ATV drivers have cut holes in his fence as they traverse the area.

Several drivers stuck in traffic while waiting for the cows to be wrangled up turned around and drove the wrong way on the Beachline.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said none was ticketed, however, because their focus was on getting the highway re-opened.
