Polk County Sheriff's deputies arrested a former Animal Control officer on Friday after they say she forcibly took a dog from an 82-year-old retired nun.
Lori Holland, 41, of Winter Haven, previously gave away a chihuahua dog named "Mojo," to the woman because Holland could no longer care for him, according to deputies.
Holland then went to the home of the woman three days after she gave away the dog saying she wanted to drop off more items, deputies said. When she arrived, Holland said she was taking the dog with her and started crying, saying her son missed the dog, according to deputies.
Holland then forcibly took the dog from the woman in a tug-of-war action according to authorities.
She resigned from her position upon her arrest, however, she would have been immediately suspended pending termination had she not resigned, deputies said.
Holland was booked into the Polk County Jail on charges of robbery and burglary, and has been released after posting bond.
