Documents show no Trayvon Martin DNA on George Zimmerman gun

Prosecutors released more records in the case of George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch leader charged with fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
The records being released Wednesday include a photo of Zimmerman's head that was taken by a witness following a confrontation with Martin. The records also include forensic tests that show Zimmerman's DNA was the only one that could be identified on the grip of the gun used to fatally shoot Martin.
The results made public Wednesday rule out Martin's DNA from being on the gun's grip. Zimmerman's DNA also was identified on the gun's holster. According to the report, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement did extensive testing on the gun, including the guns grip, the trigger, the slide and the holster. The report states the gun's grip did have blood on it, which demonstrated the presence of two individuals.
The tests were inconclusive as to whether Martin's DNA was on the gun's holster. Zimmerman had previously told authorities he only opened fire during the struggle with Martin because he feared Martin would get the gun. The report states there's no evidence Martin even grabbed the gun.
The evidence also shows diagrams that some witnesses drew out for investigators describing the struggle between Zimmerman and Martin. One witness drew stick people with the words "black shirt on top" and "red shirt on bottom," indicating that Martin was in fact on top on Zimmerman during the fight.
Emails from the Sanford Police Department, the agency that initially investigated Martin's death, were also released. Many of the emails were critical of how the department handled the investigation.
Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Martin, who was shot during a confrontation in a gated community in Sanford last February.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty, claiming self-defense.
The delay in Zimmerman's arrest led to nationwide protests.
