Dogs surf in Cocoa Beach contest

The 49th annual Easter Surf Festival in Cocoa Beach won't have just humans surfing this year. For the first time, Cocoa Beach will be home to the East Coast Dog Surfing Championship.

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -

The 49th annual Easter Surf Festival in Cocoa Beach won't have just humans surfing this year. For the first time, Cocoa Beach will be home to the East Coast Dog Surfing Championship.

The 2-day event will be held at the Cocoa Beach Pier at noon and will feature the finals on Saturday.

The first dogs took the water on Friday with therapy dogs Boaz and Coa and Booker T. Surfdog.

The winner of the competition will receive a $500 AFLAC Merritt Island Cash Prize.

All proceeds from the contest go to the Central Florida Humane Society.
