The Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts received a $25 million check from Orange County.

ORLANDO, Fla. -

The Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts received a $25 million check from Orange County on Monday.

Mayor Teresa Jacobs announced the $25 million would help the center begin construction of its final phase, which includes a performance hall. The money from the $25 million came from tourist taxes.

The county has committed to a total of $163 million toward the development of the arts center, which would help pay for a third theater.

Last week, the center was given $10 million by charities.

The center still needs to raise another $65 million to complete the final phase of the project, which will be located on South Street in Downtown Orlando. County leaders hope they'll be able to move forward with the second phase of the project by the end of the year.
