Marion County Fire Rescue battled flames that consumed a man’s McIntosh residence late Sunday morning.
Firefighters were dispatched to a home located at 9550 N.W. 230th Street, in McIntosh, at 11:51 a.m, Sunday.
Firefighters said they got to find the home, which sits in a deeply wooded area, on the ground and fully involved in flames.
Firefighters said approximately one-quarter acre of land and several vehicles on the lot were also involved in the fire.
The homeowner, an elderly man, was transported to Shands at the University of Florida for smoke inhalation treatment, firefighters said.
The emergency call came from a motorist who, while driving on I-75 near mile-marker 373, noticed smoke in the area.
The Florida Forest Service also responded to the scene. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident.
