The Florida Highway Patrol says a 53-year-old Edgewater man has died after he lost control and collided with a sign.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. Sunday on I-4 at Mile Marker 103 in Seminole County.

Officials said Gary Thompson, 53, was traveling westbound on I-4 during Sunday's heavy rain showers.

For an unknown reason, authorities said Thompson lost control, left the roadway and the left side of his 2002 Ford vehicle collided with a sign.

Thompson was transported to Central Florida Regional, where he was pronounced dead. Tim Lu, 16, who was a passenger inside of the vehicle, was taken to ORMC with minor injuries.

FHP said no witnesses stopped after the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 407-737 -2213.
