Has it really been 20 years? Twenty years ago, the Nutrition Facts label made its debut on the side of everything from snacks to bottled water.
In a statement Wednesday, FDA Consumer Health Information said “that familiar rectangular box provides, in a standard format, important information about the nutritional content for most packaged foods.”
The label has provided a tool for consumers to figure out what’s fattening and what isn’t.
The FDA says the numbers “influenced many companies to make their foods more healthful, and has been adapted by countries around the world.
FDA plans to propose updates to the label based on the latest science-based nutrition recommendations.”
