RUSKIN, Fla. -

A family was forced from their Tampa area home after a hole opened up in their backyard.

Hillsborough County spokesman Willie Puz says the incident was reported to the code enforcement department Thursday evening as a "reported sinkhole." But officials now believe the 7-foot by 2-foot hole may have been caused by an uncapped septic system.

Puz says the family recently had work done on their septic tank. Code enforcement officials returned to the house Friday morning to continue an investigation.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials say the family went to a friend's home after the hole was spotted Thursday night. Ruskin is near Tampa and not far from Seffner, where 37-year-old Jeffrey Bush was killed when a sinkhole opened under his bedroom on Feb. 28.

The hole is about 10 feet from the family's home.
