Local 6 helped Central Floridians kick off the holiday season by lighting up the Lake Eola Christmas tree in downtown Orlando Friday.

Local 6 morning team anchors joined Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer on Friday at the annual Holiday Lights Orlando event.

The yearly program is the premier holiday event for families, businesses and residents in the city. This year, the event featured Trinity Downtown Evangelical Lutheran Church and School's annual Christmas show "The Gift," which will feature a choir of nearly 100 voices.

Festivities also include the lighting of a menorah, a sampling of holiday treats and an outdoor viewing of "Elf," starring Will Ferrell.

The tree lighting was set to begin at about 6:15 p.m.

Admission is free at the Lake Eola Park Amphitheater.
