A security guard at an Internet cafe in Melbourne shoots a would-be robber, according to police, who are searching for two others.

A security guard at an Internet cafe in Melbourne shot a would-be robber early Tuesday, according to police, who continue to search for two other assailants.

Mark Spivey, 18, was shot multiple times about 4 a.m. at the Allied Veterans of the World on Babcock Street in Melbourne.  The sign on the door of the business says Allied Internet Center.

According to Melbourne police, three men, including Spivey, entered the business wearing masks in a robbery attempt.  A security guard, whose name has not been released, fired several rounds at the culprits, striking and seriously wounding Spivey, who remains hospitalized, police said.

"It was an attempted armed robbery and the subjects were confronted by the armed security guard in the facility," Melbourne police Lt. Byron Barnes said.

Spivey staggered onto Babcock Street, collapsed and was found later by Melbourne police.

"The other subjects fled and left him behind," Barnes said. Police said they are still searching for at least two other culprits, but they recovered the gun the injured man was carrying during the attempted robbery.

People who were inside the Internet cafe told Local 6 they were relieved that the security guard took quick action.

"He was alert, thank God," said Anne Summers. "He saved our lives."

Craig Jackson described what he did when the shots broke out.

"First thing I did is I hit the ground," Jackson said. "That's the most important thing."

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the two men who got away is urged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

The incident marks the third shooting at a Central Florida Internet cafe in the last 16 months.

Last month, a patron at a Marion County Internet cafe struck two armed men who stormed the business in a robbery attempt, and the shooting was captured on video.
