A Satellite Beach man is facing a charge of negligence with a firearm after South Carolina authorities said he shot and killed a member of his hunting party, thinking the other man was a wild hog.
Florida Today reports that Lukas J. Brickweg, 25, is accused of shooting Robert A. Iselim, 52, of Jacksonville near Ninety Six, S.C., which is about 40 miles west of Columbia. The deadly incident occurred early Saturday morning.
According to a report from the Greenwood County (S.C.) Sheriff’s Department, another man in the hunting party called authorities after his brother was shot.
The man told investigators that Brickweg was “in a climbing stand and had shot his brother, Robert, thinking he was a wild hog,” the report reads. Iselim was found lying on his back in open hardwoods.
Brickweg was charged with criminally negligent use of a firearm resulting in death, according to Greenwood County court records. He is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Apr. 3.
