A Titusville police officer is in stable condition Saturday after a vehicle struck him Friday night.
Authorities said the man suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to render aid at a traffic crash.
Police said around 11 p.m., off-duty Titusville Police Officer Greg Shaw witnessed a vehicle crash into a light pole on U.S. Highway 1 at Harrison Sttreet.
Police said the crash knocked out power to the street lights and traffic signal at the intersection.
Officer Shaw immediately responded to the light pole crash site to render aid, police said.
Police said Shaw was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet pick-up truck that was going southbound on U.S. 1.
The driver, 67-year-old Timothy Ring, said he did not see Shaw, police said.
Police said the crash is still under investigation, and Ring is not expected to be cited in the crash.
Shaw was transported to Parrish Medical Center and then transferred to Holmes Regional Medical Center. He is listed in stable condition, police said.
Shaw is a 12 year veteran with the Titusville Police Department.
Police said Travis Potts, 26, of Mims was the driver in the original crash into the light pole. Potts was arrested at the scene, booked into Brevard County Jail, and charged with reckless driving, authorities said.
Police said several witnesses described Potts driving in circles at high speeds in the parking lot of Miracle City Mall prior to the crash. Police said witnesses reported Potts pulled onto U.S. 1 spinning tires, lost control, then hit a light pole.
