Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has announced that he won't be running for governor of Florida.

ORLANDO, Fla. -

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer has announced on Wednesday that he won't be running for governor of Florida.

Dyer made the announcement at the Orlando State of the City address on Wednesday morning.

"Over the past year, there has been a lot of speculation that I might run for governor. And many wonderful people have encouraged me to do so," Dyer said on Wednesday. "And I have been humbled by the support from those who have said the partnership-focused style of leadership that I’ve worked to bring to Orlando is desperately needed statewide. But after careful consideration, I have decided that I will not run for governor."

Dyer had previously been hinting at the possibility of running for governor back in September.

"I believe that I have a responsibility to the people of Orlando to finish what we started," he said. "And the next few years are going to be critical in terms of Orlando’s economic recovery and our efforts to create the jobs of the future."

But the decision may have been based on recent polls. A poll by Public Policy Polling shows Charlie Crist with a 73 percent favorability rating. That's a big step from Dyer's 14 percent rating.

Dyer, however, said that the decision was very easy.

"There's no place I'd rather be than Orlando," Dyer said.
