ORLANDO, Fla. -

Five people, including a family of four, escaped a house fire early Thursday in Orlando.

A roommate of the family was treated for smoke inhalation after the blaze broke out around 3 a.m. Coot Street.

A woman who lives at the home told Local 6 she was able to escape with her husband and two children, ages 3 and 7.

"This was very scary," a neighbor said. "I saw smoke and I wasn't sure if it was our house."

The roommate suffered heavy smoke inhalation, but he is expected to be OK.

Firefighters say some neighbors in the area were evacuated as firefighters battled flames.

Orange County Fire Rescue said the fire appeared to have started in the garage.Heavy damage to garage, living room, back porch. Bedrooms were untouched by the fire, but have significant smoke and water damage.

The state fire marshal's office is expected to investigate a possible cause.
