A woman is injured and hospitalized in Volusia County after being raped, according to police.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of raping a 59-year-old woman at gunpoint, according to New Smyrna Beach police.

James Smith was arrested Wednesday night on charges of sexual battery and aggravated battery.

According to New Smyrna Beach police, Smith, who knew the woman, entered her room with a .38-caliber handgun and forced her to engage in sexual activity.

Police said officers went to the 3600 block of Marisol Court in connection with the attack, but Smith had already fled the area.

According to police, Smith apparently attacked the woman because she sold some property to his father in Kentucky.

The victim was admitted to Halifax Hospital because of her injuries, police said.

Smith was later found and arrested in Daytona Beach and taken to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department.  He was taken to the Volusia County Jail on no bond.
