PORT CARNAVERAL, Fla. -

A commissioner with the Canaveral Port Authority will pitch a possible proposal to other commissioners that could help save three Brevard County schools from shutting down.

Commissioner Bruce Deardoff tells Local 6's partners at Florida Today that he plans on asking fellow commissioners to give the Brevard County School District $5 million.

The money would be used to help keep three of Brevard County's schools open for two more years.

Deardoff said the move would save needed jobs and would give Space Coast voters another change to approve a sales tax increase to pay to keep those schools open.

The proposal is expected to come up at a meeting scheduled Friday.
