Police investigating burglary from bold thieves who may have also stolen a couple's puppy.

SANFORD, Fla. -

A couple's dog that was stolen from their Sanford home during a burglary has been found safely.

Sanford police said thieves broke into Dave and Amber Parke's home on Andrews Road in Sanford on Wednesday. Dexter was found by two girls who recognized him from Local 6's first report, according to police.

Dexter was dehydrated and hungry but is expected to be OK, according to police.

The criminals broke in in the middle of the day while the couple was gone, and they came back later that night with keys taken from the home, and stole the truck sitting in the driveway. They kicked in the door and took everything that mattered to this family. They stole TVs, computers, a gun, and their puppy, Dexter, was missing.

"When I walked in that door... I knew right away that I might never see him again," said Dave. "Worst-case scenario, someone is getting ready to sell him and we'll never see him again."

Their other Chihuahua, Cage, was found cowering under a bed when police arrived.

The Parke's security alarm wasn't working and neighbors saw nothing.
