ORLANDO, Fla. -

Hall of Famer and current Orlando Magic assistant coach Patrick Ewing was told by Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan that he will not be the team's head coach, ESPN.com reports.

Ewing did interview for the position but Jordan, who is friends with Ewing, delivered the news himself.

The Bobcats also reached out to former Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy, who is reportedly thinking about taking a year off following his stint with Orlando.

Charlotte opted not to bring back Paul Silas following a 7-59 record this season.
