Samsula residents concerned over asphalt plant

Homeowners in Samsula tell Local 6 they're concerned about a proposed asphalt plant that seems to have been put on hold by the developer.
Barcelo Developments must get a "special exception" approved by the Volusia County Council, in order to build an asphalt plant on the plot of land, zoned for agriculture, about a mile from the New Smyrna Speedway.
However, according to Dave Byron, county spokesperson, on Tuesday night, the attorney representing the developer, Nora Miller, sent an email to council members, requesting an "indefinite continuance" or that their application for the special exception be put on hold.
Local 6 tried contacting the attorney, but did not get a response back.
Some residents feel the plant will be coming sooner or later, and they'll fight to protect their neighborhood.
"It's just going to ruin our infrastructure, ruin our property values, and it's just going to turn this place into an industrial park, and we don't want an industrial park," said Donald Smith, a Samsula resident.
