Several Flagler County residents are up in arms over two local gun shops booking booths at a trade show at a local high school this coming weekend.
Both Larry's Guns and Ammo and HSDS Guns plan to attend the Flagler Home and Lifestyle Show at Flagler Palm Coast High School Saturday and Sunday.
Officials from the school and both companies said that they will not bring guns or ammunition on campus. Instead, both stores will be bringing non-lethal products, answering questions about their inventory and advertising gun safety classes.
"We have a right to be there like everybody else," Kirk Chong, an employee of Larry's Guns and Ammo, said. "It's more of an informational booth just letting people know we're there, and if they need anything, they know where to find us."
Controversy first arose when Julian Bergman, a Flagler County resident, saw a newspaper ad by Larry's Guns and Ammo saying it would be at the high school.
"At these home shows, all these kids are walking through there," Bergman said. "I just don't believe this is a place to start educating people about guns."
