SunPass glitch leads to drivers being overcharged

You are going to want to check your SunPass accounts, because officials are saying some drivers have been overcharged recently.

SunPass officials told the Sun-Sentinel that some drivers have been charged up to twice the tolls they should have paid. However, they said they do not know the extent of the problems because they rely on reports from drivers, and many don't monitor their accounts closely enough to report a problem.

Some drivers have reported being charged for three or more axles, when their vehicles only have two.

Florida Turnpike officials said the axle-counting problem is isolated to a certain type of box truck that have mechanical lifts--that lift is then misread as it drives over sensors at the toll plazas.

So far, they said they were only aware of five more cases, but said more people could have been affected.

In order to make sure you haven't been overcharged, officials say to double-check your account, because there is no other way to tell if you have been charged too much.
