A man suspected of drunken driving crashed into two Palm Bay police patrol cars late Monday night.
Palm Bay police Cpl. Floyd Burke and Officer Chris Maloy were stopped on Babcock Street just south of Blayne Street around 10 p.m. to help a person with a disabled vehicle, police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said.
The officers stopped their marked patrol cars -- with emergency lights flashing -- in the left southbound lane to block the stuck vehicle.
"During this time, a man driving a 2005 Chevy Colorado failed to stop or yield for the emergency lights and struck one of the police vehicles, pushing it into the other vehicle," Palm Bay police said.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified by police as Errol Brace, 61, was injured and taken to Palm Bay Hospital. Police said charges were pending against him.
The officers were not injured, but Burke's patrol car may be totaled and Maloy's car had minor damage, officials said.
Court records show that Brace was accused of driving under the influence in 2003, but he was acquitted on that charge and paid a fine for running a stop sign.
