The Florida Highway Patrol opened Interstate 75 Sunday morning after northbound lanes were shut down because of a fatal accident.
Troopers said the accident happened around 2:40 a.m. Sunday when two cars and a tractor-trailer were headed north on the interstate.
Troopers said a car driven by 25-year-old Lanessa Riobe and another car driven by 34-year-old Eliezer Maldonado were next to one another, with a tractor trailer behind them.
Troopers said Riobe hit the car driven by Maldonado and continued northbound.
Maldonado lost control of his car, hit the center guard rail, spun and went back into the road, where he was then hit by the tractor trailer that could not stop in time, troopers said.
Maldonado and his son, 10-year-old daughter, Ana were unharmed, troopers said.
Troopers said, Maldonado's wife, 35-year-old Deborah Maldonado and his 12-year-old son Eliezer Jr. were both killed in the accident.
Riobe was caught approximately 20 miles north of the accident scene, where she was arrested, troopers said.
Riobe was taken to the Marion County Jail.
Interstate 75 was shut down for about 5 hours while troopers investigated, but the road was re-opened around 8 a.m.
