As the regular season winds down here for prep football in Central Florida, the Clickorlando.com game of the week pits two familiar foes, the Lyman Greyhounds and the University (Volusia) Titans in what was what some sports analysts call an "instant classic".
Both Lyman and University came into tonight's contest with 3-4 records and you really could not ask for a better picturesque night for football.
Mid 50's, a cool breeze and Lyman High celebrating its Senior Night.
This game was moved to tonight from last Friday due to the impending brush-by involving Hurricane Sandy that impacted Brevard and Volusia counties.
The game started off as many expected, with University jumping out in front 14-0 behind a strong running game from back Chris Negron. He scored 2 touchdowns in the first half and was a large part in why University would control the clock for much of the first half. The large, powerful offensive line of University was dominant in the first half, but that is why we play 4 quarters of football because Lyman would not go quietly into the night.
Shining like a star in the dark sky, Greyhound QB Jared Reimel scored 3 times on TD runs to put his Lyman Greyhounds in front 21-14 in the 3rd quarter.
Both offenses were able to move the ball with ease it seemed all night. There were maybe 3 completed passes the whole night. This was an old school, run the ball and control the clock kind of game.
The game would go back in forth until the game was eventually tied by University 21-21 with 6 minutes left to go in the 4th quarter.
University took the lead 28-21 and Lyman tried coming back and scored late making it 27-28. Unfortunately for Lyman, that would end up being the final score.
Lyman dropped to 3-5 while University improved to 4-4.
