Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officers shot two suspects during an undercover operation near the Flagler-Volusia county line, officials say.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officers shot two suspects Friday during an undercover operation in Volusia County, officials said.

ATF spokesman Kevin Richardson said undercover agents met the suspects at the Scottish Inn on U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach to exchange cash and drugs for machine guns and silencers.

The transaction took place, but when agents tried to arrest the duo, they took off in a car, Richardson said.

The suspects drove at law enforcement officials, who were on foot, and the ATF agents opened fire, according to Richardson.

One person was hit once, and the other was struck three times, said Richardson, adding that the suspects kept driving.

Tom Winn, an innocent bystander, was driving south on U.S. 1 when the suspects' vehicle crashed into the back of his vehicle.  The suspects' vehicle then overturned, he said.

"I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time," said Winn, who suffered a black eye in the crash.

Both suspects were taken to area hospitals.  Their conditions were not known.
