Deputies said 32-year-old Gabriel Mendez Brignoni, of DeLand, went into the Wells Fargo Bank on West Lake Mary Boulevard last week and attempted to cash a check. The teller asked Brignoni if he was interested in opening an account and Brignoni gave the teller his license and social security card to be photocopied, according to the report.

When the check came back to a closed account, the teller became suspicious, deputies said. As the teller asked further questions, Brignoni jumped over the counter and grabbed the $867 in cash before running out of the bank.

Brignoni was found on Monday at his DeBary home, where he was arrested on robbery charges.

He was booked into Volusia County jail on no bond and transported to Seminole County jail on Thursday.
