A bear was hit by a car and killed along Interstate 4 on Friday morning, according to Altamonte Springs police.
Authorities said they received the report of a dead bear on I-4 and State Road 436 in Seminole County just before 7 a.m. They then turned over the investigation to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Florida Highway Patrol said the Chevy pickup truck was traveling westbound in the outside lane of I-4 when the 2-year-old female black bear walked out in the lane in front of the vehicle, driven by a 53-year-old Deltona man.
Troopers say the driver tried to brake, but the front of the vehicle hit the bear and the bear died upon impact, troopers said.
The driver was not hurt.
FWC said it is not uncommon to see bears in the area, which is not far from Wekiva Springs State Park.
FWC biologists took the bear for more research.
