Sightings of a bear on UCF campus, as well as near Academic Village, were reported Tuesday to the UCF Police Department.

A bear sighting at the University of Central Florida was reported Tuesday to the UCF Police Department, prompting an alert.

The bear was seen near the Academic Village, a dormitory on the UCF campus.  The bear did not show any signs of aggression, wildlife officials said.

A precautionary campus wide email was sent to students, informing them of how to act if they encounter a bear.

"Make your presence known," said a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission official. "But do not make any sudden or abrupt movements. Back slowly into a safe, indoor place, and be sure the bear has an obvious escape route."

Those on the UCF campus are urged to contact UCF police at 407-823-5555 should they encounter a bear.
