ORLANDO, Fla. -

A bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by an Orange County deputy in Orlando, troopers said.

The crash happened Friday night along North Semoran Boulevard, near Oleander Drive and south of State Road 50.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the deputy was on North Semoran Boulevard in the outside lane as the bicyclist traveled west to east.

Troopers said the bicyclist was hit just south of the intersection. He was taken to Florida Hospital East and was then flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The crash shut down Semoran Boulevard from Hibiscus Place to Oleander Drive.
