Fans of Alan Jackson and Kid Rock are petitioning to have the upcoming performance at SeaWorld canceled, citing concerns raised from the film 'Blackfish.'
The concert, which will kick off the Bands, Brew and BBQ event, is slated to take place Sunday, but fans are urging the musicians to follow the lead of artists such as Barenaked Ladies and Willie Nelson, both of whom canceled SeaWorld performances.
The petition was launched by Anne Teicher, an Alan Jackson fan from Washington, D.C.
"…[Alan Jackson] is a good and kind man, which is why I am petitioning him to please follow in the footsteps of so many other talented performers such as Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood and Willie Nelson, just to name a few,” Teicher said in the peition. “Adding Alan Jackson to this list of performers will … send a message to SeaWorld that their cruelty will not be tolerated."
Likewise, long-time Kid Rock fan Heather Murphy launched a petition on Change.org, citing concerns about the orca profiled in Blackfish.
"By playing there, you are showing the world that this is OK, when it is clearly not! It’s time to take a stand and end the captive circus at SeaWorld,” Murphy said in her petition. “There are many other venues in the Orlando area where you would be welcome. Enjoy the Superbowl and stay home Superbowl Sunday!"
More than two dozen petitions have been launched on Change.org in response to Blackfish, including one urging Southwest Air to drop its corporate partnership with SeaWorld.
