LONGWOOD, Fla. -

A boat caught fire Friday morning at a Seminole County business, prompting officials to briefly close a major roadway.

A driver traveling on U.S. Highway 17-92 in Longwood called 911 after spotting smoke coming from BMC Boats, which is located just south of State Road 419.

Firefighters arrived, but a pickup truck, parked to prevent overnight thefts, was blocking the front gate.  Firefighters forced their way into the truck and broke the transmission to push it out of the way, officials said.

Firefighters cut into the garage/workshop area of the business and found a boat on fire.

The blaze was extinguished within 20 minutes, and the boat was dragged out of the business to prevent the fire from spreading.

The garage area sustained some smoke damage, but the showroom was not affected.

The state fire marshal will investigate the cause of the blaze.

U.S. Highway 17-92 was closed for a short time at Ronald Reagan Boulevard.
