Broward County mulls school pick-up line cellphone ban

Parents in Broward County may no longer be able to use cell phones while waiting on school pick-up lines.

According to the Sun Sentinel, the School Board is considering a policy that bans drivers from using cell phones or other devices on school grounds, even if they're using Bluetooth or headsets.

The discussion comes after principals and parents have complained about phone use slowing down pick-up lines. They also said distracted drivers have pulled away without their children safely buckled in and even hit students.

But some parents said they needed to use their phones to locate their children in the after-school rush.

The policy would allow those waiting to use phones if they are parked, but would ban the use once the car starts moving.

The school board is expected to hold a public hearing on the issue in the next month.
