PALM BAY, Fla. -

A brush fire that burned dangerously close to homes in Palm Bay was extinguished by firefighters.

Brevard County Fire Rescue said the fire ignited Wednesday afternoon in the area of Wessel Avenue Southeast and threatened as many as 5 homes.

One person was treated for possible smoke inhalation. No injuries were reported.

Video from Sky6 showed a small area of charred grass near some homes, with firefighters putting water on some hot spots.

Palm Bay Fire Rescue said the fire ignited in a vacant lot and quickly threatened homes. A boat next to the home nearest to the fire sustained minor damage, but the fire was contained to the vacant lot.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
